If you have been told that you have bone loss around your teeth, or cannot get dental implants because of your condition, we might be able to determine otherwise.

If you are suffering from gum disease and want to correct your smile, Willamette Valley Periodontics can help. Our highly trained team utilizes a variety of procedures to address the damage caused by various oral health conditions. This allows us to prepare our patients for dental implants or other restorations. These regenerative procedures include treatments such as bone grafts and soft tissue grafts.

What Is Periodontal Regeneration?

Periodontal regeneration refers to the group of treatments designed to replace damaged tissue in your oral cavity and jaw.

The goal of these treatments is to help your mouth heal and begin to function normally. Over time, the added tissue will combine with the remaining healthy tissue.

How Does This Benefit Me?

Periodontal regeneration is a means of obtaining a healthier mouth, making it easier for you to practice good oral hygiene. It also helps your mouth function properly and protects your natural teeth.

If you have already lost a majority of your natural teeth and are a candidate for dental implants, regeneration is a means of preparing your mouth for the implants. Patients with insufficient gum tissue or a weak jawbone will need regenerative procedures before dental implants can be successfully installed.

What Procedures Are Used?

There are several procedures utilized to accomplish periodontal regeneration.

Some patients may only need one procedure to address a specific ailment, while others may need multiple treatments to accomplish complete regeneration.

There are several different procedures, some utilizing bone, your own blood, and/or different techniques to allow the body to heal itself. All procedures are outpatient treatments and will allow you to resume relatively normal activities the same day. However, it will take several months or more for the bone to fuse with your jaw and create a solid structure.

Once fusion has occurred, your jawbone will be strong enough for further restorative procedures, such as dental implants.

Soft Tissue Graft

A soft-tissue graft refers to a procedure that involves adding new tissue to your gum line in the event that your gums have receded. There are many different types of soft tissue grafts that achieve different outcomes, and the best way to determine which is best for your situation is to speak with the doctor and staff at Willamette Valley Periodontics.
